World Food India Delegation Generates Huge Interest among Uttarakhand’s Business Community at Dehradun Roadshow

Dehradun, 28th July, 2017: The World Food India delegation generated huge excitement among the business community of Uttarakhand during the roadshow organised today in Dehradun. The Roadshow was organised by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India, in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), to extend the invite to Uttarakhand based industrialists to participate in World Food India 2017. The Roadshow saw, Mr. Parag Gupta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, Dr. Ranbir Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand, and Ms. Manisha Panwar, Principal Secretary MSME & Industries, Government of Uttarakhand addressing the business community of the state. More than 200 business persons and industrialist attended the World Food India roadshow.

World Food India 2017 is the platform for showcasing the food processing strength of India and an opportunity to connect with international and Indian key players in food processing and allied sectors. Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is the National Event Partner. The three day mega event ‘World Food India’ to be held in New Delhi from 3 – 5 November 2017.

Speaking at the roadshow and highlighting the growth opportunity in food processing industry in the state, Dr. Ranbir Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand, Said “Uttarakhand Government is very proactive and has taken up many reforms like marketing of processed food, rules for contract farming, private Mandis and this would double the income of farmers. World Food India is a unique opportunity for the food processing industry and it will provide the ideal platform to connect with the all key stakeholders. I am pleased to announce that Uttarakhand to be the Focus State of World Food India.”

Mr. Parag Gupta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India (MoFPI) discussed the investment and growth opportunities in food processing sector with business leaders. Furthermore, Mr. Gupta briefed the business community about the Government schemes related to food processing industry and highlighted the benefits of Kisan Sampada scheme of the Central Govt for Farmers, FPOs, Corporates etc.  Kisan Sampada scheme will benefit 20 lakh farmers and generate 5,30,500 direct/ indirect employment in the country by the year 2019-20.

Addressing the business community of Uttarakhand, Mr. Parag Gupta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, said “The World Food India 2017 would be the golden opportunity for every business related to food processing as it will bring all stakeholders of the ecosystem together, showcase our strengths and explore collaboration opportunities. The food processing industry has huge scope to grow in India. Currently, only 10% of produce is processed in India and this can be leveraged through food processing and the wastage of food can be reduced to help the farmers and industry.

“Government of India has laid significant focus on food processing and identified it as a priority sector. The Government has launched Kisan SAMPADA scheme to benefit the farmers and food processing Industry. The scheme has an allocation INR 6,000 crore to supplement agriculture, modernise processing and decrease wastage post-harvest.  SAMPADA will benefit 20 lakhs and it will likely to generate 5, 30,500 direct/ indirect employment. The umbrella scheme incorporates multiple projects like mega food parks, integrated cold chain and value addition infrastructure, food safety and quality assurance infrastructure.” He further added.

Mr. Gupta urged the business community of Uttarakhand for maximum participation in the event at New Delhi and look for new opportunities and collaboration with other Indian and global companies. He also added that Uttrakhand has made large strides in the food processing sector and the state’s policy and regulation has made it easier for investors for doing business in the state.

Speaking at the roadshow, Ms. Manisha Panwar, Principal Secretary, MSME & Industries, Government of Uttarakhand, said “Uttarakhand is fasting growing state and it has shown remarkable growth from 2004-05 to 2016-16. Uttarakhand has a vast opportunity in food processing sector and the state produces. With proactive policy & business environment, Uttarakhand has made large strides in the food processing sector and the state’s policy and regulation has made it easier for investors for doing business in the state. The state government has done very well in Ease of Doing Business. It has now ranked 9th in India from 23rd place earlier.” World Food India has received overwhelming response from across the globe and it will see participation from over 30 countries. Italy has confirmed to be a Focus Country. The response from the Indian states has been very encouraging and more than 10 states have agreed to participate in World Food India. Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh will be the Partner States of World Food India. Furthermore, Karnataka, West Bengal, Kerala, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh will be the Focus States of World Food India.

All leading giants from India and abroad in Food processing, food technology, technology & equipment players, cold chains & reefer transports, ingredients, food retailers will be present at World Food India. World Food India will provide a platform to showcase offerings and Services along the food value chain which includes production, processing, packaging, technology, equipment, storage, logistics or retail. 80 international food companies have confirmed their participation at World Food India. Also, 30 CEOs of international food companies will attend the CEO Roundtable at World Food India. 

Industry representatives present at the Roadshow included agro products, beverages, fisheries, dairy, organic & health food, Farmer Producer Organisations, Progressive farmers and food, industry associations and academia.

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries is organising, in collaboration with the Confederation Indian Industry (CII), World Food India in New Delhi from 3 to 5 November, 2017. World Food India will be the largest gathering of investors, manufacturers, producers, food processors, policy makers, and organizations from the global food ecosystem. It will provide opportunities for both investment and trade in the food processing sector for both domestic and international companies.
